Undergraduate education | Teaching, disciplines and learning

Early undergraduate training emphasizes mathematics, scientific reasoning and methods that can transfer across disciplines. In management-related majors the foundation spans economics, operations research, accounting and databases; in engineering it may include mechanics and physical principles. Specialization develops as students acquire the tools to read subject-specific literature and analyze more complex problems. Laboratory and project work help connect concepts with measurable phenomena.

Four management majors and undergraduate foundations

Within the management school, the four identified undergraduate majors are Management Science, Information Management and Information Systems, Finance, and Statistics. The early curriculum stresses mathematics, economics, management principles, operations research, accounting and database methods.

These foundations support later specialization and quantitative applications; the precise timetable and required course combinations depend on the applicable cohort curriculum.

A closer look at Undergraduate education

Undergraduate study combines broad disciplinary foundations with more focused study in later years. Within management-related programs, early work in mathematics, economics, operations research, databases and accounting supports selection of a more specialized major. Practical exercises can link statistical reasoning with real-world decision problems without replacing the formal credit structure of the program.

Undergraduate education: scope and context

Some of the university’s undergraduate courses illustrate how specializations are built from fundamentals. Mathematical physics develops tools for physical modeling, whereas Introduction to Data Science adds computational approaches for analyzing observations. In management education, accounting and economics create a foundation for decisions involving financial reports and organizational resources. The common objective is to connect methods with increasingly complex disciplinary problems.
